Executive AI and Automation Advisory

Questions
we are often asked.

Plain answers on how independent AI and automation advisory works,
why so many projects fail, and how we work with leadership teams.

What does an independent AI and automation advisor do?

An independent advisor gives leadership senior guidance on AI and automation before the money is spent. IAAI Partners works with boards, C-suites and leadership teams to rank their priorities, review their investments and turn them into an executive plan. We clear the front half of AI delivery: the strategy, the priorities, the business case and the evaluation of vendors. Delivery stays with your team, so you keep control of the build and the budget.

Why do so many AI projects fail?

Most AI initiatives fall short of their business case. S&P Global found that 42% of companies abandoned most of their AI initiatives. A RAND report (2024) cites estimates that more than 80% of AI projects fail. A Gartner survey (April 2026) found that only 28% of AI use cases in infrastructure and operations fully succeed and meet ROI expectations, while 20% fail outright. Workplace Intelligence (2026) reported that 75% of executives said their company’s AI strategy was for show. The common pattern is that capital moves before the right questions are asked: what the business needs, what the organization is ready for and who owns the outcome. Among leaders who delivered at least one successful use case, Gartner found success was attributed mainly to integrating AI into existing workflows and securing full support from business executives.

How is an independent advisor different from an AI consultant or vendor?

Independence. IAAI Partners takes no commissions, referral fees or preferred-vendor arrangements, and does not resell technology or implement it. Because we do not build, we never need the problem to grow. Every recommendation answers to one thing: what is right for your business.

What happens in the 90 days?

Three steps, with both partners involved throughout. By day 30 you have a Priority Overview: your AI priorities, ranked by business value. By day 60, an Investment Review: what to fund, fix, stop or scale. By day 90, an Executive Plan: a clear plan with owners, controls and a handover to your team.

How is this different from hiring an AI leader?

A chief AI officer is the right answer for a permanent function. But the search takes six months or more, the ramp-up takes longer, and a new hire starts without context. We start now, and by day 90 we leave you with priorities, a mandate and a plan, so a hire, if you still want one, starts with a clear path.

How much does it cost?

Fixed fee, never hours. We are paid to finish, not to bill time. The right scope depends on your situation, so the fee is agreed after a short first conversation: 15 minutes, an honest conversation.

Who will I actually work with?

Tim Mosholt and Doug Shannon, personally. There are no juniors and no bench. Tim is a 25-year automation veteran: a strategist and go-to-market leader for tech companies, and founder and CEO of tech ventures across Asia. Doug is a global AI and automation leader, named among the Top 10 AI Leaders to Follow in 2026 and the Top 10 Entrepreneurs to Watch in 2026 (MSN), and a member of the Forbes Technology Council. Between them they have worked with the U.S. Department of Defense, Chevron, Cisco, tier-1 banks and state ministries.

Do you build or implement AI solutions?

No. We clear the front half of AI delivery, and your team or your chosen vendors build. That separation is deliberate: it keeps our advice free of any interest in selling you more work.

Where do you work, and with whom?

IAAI Partners is registered in Singapore and works with clients worldwide, remotely and on-site, including in Singapore and San Francisco. Our clients are boards, C-suites and leadership teams deciding where to invest in AI and automation.
